Applying for a McGrath Pink Visa Card



Do I have to be a Community First Member to take out a McGrath Visa Card?

Yes. Community First is a mutual financial services organisation which is owned by it Members. It is a requirement for you to be a Member of Community First to be approved for a Visa Credit or Debit Card.



What information will I need to complete my application?

  • Your personal details.
  • If applying for a Visa credit card, we will also need details of your income, employment, any assets (e.g. home, car or savings) and debts (mortgages, loans and credit cards) you currently have.


How do I transfer balances from my other cards to my McGrath Pink Visa Credit Card?

If you are considering transferring your existing credit or store card balances (non- Community First cards) to the McGrath Pink Visa credit card all you need to do is let us know when we contact you to let you know your credit card has been pre-approved. We will arrange this at no cost to you.



How do I add an additional card holder?

You can choose to have an additional cardholder attached to your Community First Visa credit card as along as the person is over 18 years of age. The additional card is configured exactly as your own and you are responsible for its use. The person you authorise to hold your additional card will share your credit limit and you will receive one statement for both cards.



What credit limit can I obtain?

To make applying for a McGrath Pink Visa Credit Card as simple as possible, you have the option of selecting a credit limit from as little as $1,000, to a maximum of $15,000.

You should always ensure your credit card limit is realistic, taking in to account your capacity to repay your credit card debt. You can also request to have your credit limit decreased at any time (minimum $1,000) if you feel you don't need or can't manage your current limit.




How long does it take to apply?

Applying for a McGrath Pink Visa Card with Community First will take you approximately 10 - 15 minutes, provided you have all the relevant information on hand.



How will I know my application has been approved?

Upon approval, we will contact you via your preferred contact number to advise you that your application has been approved.

How will I be helping the McGrath Foundation?

With every Credit Card funded, we will donate half the card’s annual fee ($20) to the McGrath Foundation each year you hold the card. The money raised will go towards McGrath Breast Care Nurses to support women with breast cancer and their families.
Community First will donate $1 of the Pink Visa Debit Card’s monthly fee to the McGrath Foundation.



How is the interest calculated on my McGrath Pink Visa Card?

Interest is calculated on the daily balance and charged monthly.



How do I activate my card?

Login to your Internet Banking and select 'Other' followed by 'Card Activation' from the top menu. Alternatively, you can call us direct on 1300 13 22 77.

What will my repayments be on my credit card?

The minimum payment specified on your monthly credit card statement is the minimum amount you must pay before the due date, if it's not possible for you to pay off any more. Repayments are 3% of the closing balance or $20.00, whatever is the greatest.

Minimum payments are designed to give you some short-term payment flexibility, but it is unwise to rely on making minimum payments as an ongoing way of managing credit card debt. After all, if you only make the minimum payment every month, it could take years to pay off your credit card balance.




How can I make repayments on my McGrath Pink Visa Credit Card?

There are a range of ways you can make repayments on your Credit Card. If you have a Community First Visa Credit Card, you can make repayments using BPAY. Simply use the our BPAY biller code 118760 and customer reference number provided on your credit card statement.

Alternatively, you can arrange to make your card repayments by payroll deduction, Internet Banking transfer, Telephone Banking transfer, deposit at any of our Financial Services Stores, periodical payment or external credit transfer from another account held at another financial institution.

What is the difference between the McGrath Pink Visa and the McGrath Pink Debit card?

The McGrath Pink Visa Debit card allows you to pay for your purchases using your own money, while a McGrath Pink credit card provides you with the ability to access credit, which you then repay at a later date.

Visa Debit offers the flexibility of accessing your account with the added benefit of access to the worldwide Visa network. You can access your account at more than 24 million outlets around the world including online, over the phone or overseas. So now you can make purchases like flights or concert tickets online or over the phone using Visa Debit.



Where can I use my Visa Debit card?

Visa Debit is accepted at more than 24 million outlets around the world, wherever Visa is accepted. This includes at the point of purchase (EFTPOS), ATMs, online, over the phone or overseas.

The Visa debit card is accepted at more than 24 million locations worldwide. You can also make withdrawals from ATMs where the Visa PLUS logo is displayed. This can help avoid carrying large portions of cash (withdrawal fees apply).




What is Visa payWave?

Visa payWave is a contactless payment feature on the McGrath Pink Visa Debit card allowing you to pay for purchases under $100 without swiping, signing, or entering a PIN at any merchants who have a contactless terminal.

What is Verified by Visa?

Benefit from added peace of mind when using your Visa Debit card on the Internet. Verified by Visa is a joint initiative between Community First and Visa. It offers you protection against the unauthorised use of your Visa Debit card for online shopping at participating Verified by Visa merchants. At these merchants, Verified by Visa allows you to identify yourself using your Verified by Visa password.



What is Visa’s Zero Liability Policy?

Shop worry-free at millions of merchants, anywhere in the world.

With Visa's Zero Liability policy, you won’t be held responsible for fraudulent charges or unauthorised purchases made with your card or account information*. This means you can use your card to shop with total confidence, as you will always be protected against unauthorised use.




What are the transactions and daily limits?

When you start using your debit card, the following daily transactions limits apply:

ATM withdrawals
$1,050 per day
EFTPOS transactions
$1,000 per day
payWave transactions
$100 per card per day



Will I receive a PIN number with my Visa debit card?

Yes. For a new or additional card, a PIN number will be sent to you in the mail after you receive your card.

If you are replacing a damaged card or renewing an existing card, the PIN number will remain the same.




Will I need a PIN number for overseas transactions?

Yes. Whether you are using a magnetic stripe or chip card, we strongly recommend that you know your PIN before travelling overseas. If you do not know your PIN, please contact us on 1300 13 22 77.



How can I change my PIN?

You may like to change your PIN for security reasons or to reduce the number of PINs you have to remember.

Next time you use a rediATM near you, just keep an eye out for the “change PIN” option on the screen.





Where can I find rediATMs?

The rediATM network has over 3,000 ATMs and counting. Community First Members can transact direct charge free by using ATMs belonging to the rediATM network. This includes rediATMs and NAB ATMs.

Three easy ways to find your nearest rediATM:

  • Download the rediATM Finder Application for your iPhone.



How can I avoid excess transaction ATM fees?

  • Make fewer but larger withdrawals to maximise your allowance.
  • Do a cash-out withdrawal at the same time as an EFTPOS transaction. It’s treated as one transaction and cheaper than using an ATM.
  • Press Credit when using a Visa Debit card to make a purchase through EFTPOS. It’s a fee-free transaction.
  • Use the ATMs within our network as the fee is offset by your monthly allowance. Our network includes rediATM and NAB other ATMs will levy their own Direct Charge fee which is not covered by your monthly allowance.
  • Increase your business with us to claim our maximum discount.



How can I make purchases and withdraw money with Visa Debit?

There are many ways you can access your money using your Visa Debit card, including at ATMs, at the point of purchase, over the phone, online and via mail order.

A simple rule to remember is to select ‘Credit’ for all transactions, unless withdrawing cash with purchases where you select ‘Savings’.

When using your Visa Debit card for ATM transactions, select the 'credit' button to access your account.

Using your card overseas

You can use your Community First Visa debit card at more than 24 million locations worldwide. You can also make withdrawals from ATMs where the Visa PLUS logo is displayed.

Please note that currency conversion and fees will apply.

Remember to tell us if you are travelling overseas as it will assist us in monitoring any suspicious transaction activity.




Can I make internet, phone or mail order purchases using my Visa debit card?

To make Internet, phone or mail order purchases:
  • Simply quote your 16 digit card number and expiry date (from the front of your card), and advise the card type is Visa.
  • As an additional security measure some organisations may require the Card Validation Code (CVC) – the last three digits on the back of your card.



Can I set up recurring direct debit transactions?

Yes. You can arrange recurring transactions to other organisations like insurance or phone bills to be charged to your account.

To set up recurring transactions with other organisations, provide them with your 16 digit card number and expiry date, and advise the card type is Visa. As an additional security measure some organisations may require the Card Validation Code (CVC) – the last three digits on the back of your card.

Or, you can set up a direct debit by providing the BSB and account number.




How often will I receive a statement?

For credit cards, statements are produced and dispatched on a monthly basis. Duplicate statements can be requested at anytime by calling 1300 13 22 77. Account balances are also available through Internet Banking and Telephone Banking.

For your statement history at the click of a button, you can also register for our e-statements service.




What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?

Report lost or stolen cards to the VISA hot-line immediately on 1800 224 004. Once you have cancelled your card, you will then need to order a replacement card by calling us on 1300 13 22 77.



I've forgotten my PIN. How do I get a new one?

Please contact us on 1300 13 22 77 to discuss your circumstances.



What do I do if I am having difficulties making my repayments?

If you ever experience difficulty paying your credit card or other bills, the sooner you take action to manage the problem, the easier it will be to find a solution. Letting credit card debts mount up or juggling cards to make minimum repayments, will only make the situation worse in the future.

If you are having trouble managing credit, you should get in touch with us immediately so we can outline options to help you pay off the debt.
